Hi-Line Volleyball: One big week for area spikers

Hi-Line Volleyball Roundup

The high school volleyball season has reached a fever pitch on the Hi-Line, as this week marks the final week of the regular season. After that, it's on to district tournaments.

There wasn't a whole lot of action on the Hi-Line last weekend though, as most schools took a break for teacher conferences.

Early last week, things were busy though.

Last Tuesday saw a stunner in the 6C East as Chester-Joplin-Inverness ended Chinook's unbeaten streak in conference play. The Hawks beat the Sugarbeeters in a five-set thriller in Chinook, by scores of19-25, 16-26, 25-20, 26-24 and 15-9. The Hawks pulled off the huge upset by coming back from a 2-0 deficit.

Tatum Hull had a big match for the Hawks with eight kills, eight aces and five blocks, while Sam May had eight kills and eight aces as well. Chinook got 11 kills from Delaney Kellam, while Lily Surber and Crystal Hofer each tallied 23 digs.

Last Tuesday night also saw North Star win at Box Elder in a tough 6C East match. The Knights had to go five with Box Elder, winning by scores of 25-23, 23-25, 18-25, 25-14 and 16-14 in what was a wild match, and a great effort by the Bears. Meanwhile Harlem beat Hays-Lodge Pole in a non-conference affair. Harlem beat the Thunderbirds by scores of 25-11, 25-5 and 25-16, with Aspen Baker totaling five kills and Aria Owens and Sarah Billmayer adding eight aces each.

In a big 7C match last Tuesday night, Fort Benton fell to rival Belt in four games, by scores of 25-14, 25-23, 24-26 and 25-16, while Big Sandy captured a win at HLP last Monday.

Last Wednesday night, the Rocky Boy Morning Stars were swept by Fairfield in a District 1B matchup. The Eagles beat the Morning Stars by scores of 25-16, 25-5 and 25-13. Jaynah Gopher had three kills and five assists in the loss for Rocky Boy, which also fell to Choteau last week as well.

Finally, last Friday night saw Harlem lose a tough 2B match to rival Wolf Point. In a really close match, the Wolves edged the Wildcats by scores of 25-23, 25-23 and 25-23. Aspen Baker had 10 kills for Harlem, while Never Spotted Eagle had 17 digs and Aria Owens had four aces.

Area teams will conclude their regular season this week. In the 6C East, Chinook and North Star are tied atop the standings, while Box Elder is third, CJI fourth, Big Sandy fifth and HLP sixth.
