Hi-Line Football: Longhorns, Pioneers win blowouts, again

Hi-Line Football Roundup

The Fort Benton football team keeps its undefeated season moving after the Longhorns shut out the Simms Tigers last Friday night 60-0 in Simms.

Last Friday's game against Simms left no questions unanswered about the quality and skill of the Longhorns. Shutting out an opponent is always a way to prove that the team has a lot to put forward.

Fort Benton's first score came from its quarterback, Garett Diekhans, who completed a pass to receiver William Ullery. Ullery scored the Longhorns' next points, running for 28-yards to the endzone. Running back Jace Thompson found his way to the endzone for another six, the score in heavy favor of Fort Benton 20-0.

Then, Diekhans and Thompson switched roles for their next touchdown, as Thompson completed a 15-yard pass to Diekhans. Diekhans followed with a 92-yard run for another score. Fort Benton extended their commanding lead 36-0. Diekhans kept up his great performance with a pass to Thompson for a big 78-yard play. Thompson also continued to put forth a great game with another score, a nine-yard touchdown. The scoreboard displayed 50-0.

Simms never found an answer for the Longhorns' dynamic offensive and fell victim to another Fort Benton touchdown as Tim Lane connected with Andrew Ballantyne for the last score of the night. The Longhorns showed no mercy all night against the Tigers and claimed a huge victory.

The Longhorns will face another Northern C team with title game hopes in the Shelby Coyotes. Fort Benton (6-0) will kick off against the Coyotes (5-1) Friday at 7 p.m.

Kody Strutz then got his first score of the night when he intercepted a pass by the Titans, returning it for a 35-yard defensive score.

But the Titans found the endzone in the third quarter with a Rhett Patnode 38-yard rushing touchdown to put six on the board for Tri-City.

Kody Strutz put the nail in the coffin with a 35-yard rushing touchdown to seal the game for the Pioneers. A powerful showing and a strong win keeps Big Sandy in the talk for a title game run.
