Ponies finish strong in Glasgow

The Havre Blue Pony cross country teams may not have been able to run their home meet due to unfortunate weather conditions, but they still got their chance to have a race last Saturday in Glasgow.

The Scottie invitational was a great showcase for the Havre runners. The boys team took first in the race with 48 points and the girls team finished second with 47 points overall.

Havre High head coach Josh Holt was very happy with the effort and results his teams put forth.

“It went really well,” said Holt. “The kids ran extremely well. I couldn’t be more pleased.”

Havre junior Dylan Young continued his impressive consistency as one of Havre’s top harriers, finishing fourth in the 5K with a 17:15. Senior Cameron Pleninger was not far behind Young, finishing sixth on a 18:03.1. Freshman Paul Bartlett followed and finished in eighth with a time of 18:20.1. The three boys gave a major boost to the Havre team and helped them win the meet.

The Pony girls team worked hard for their second-place finish. Junior Hannah Haslem finished sixth with a 21:08.4 and right after her, sophomore Emma Gillen ended her race with a seventh-place finish and a 22:24.3. Freshman Chloe Shennum placed 12th on a 23:27.2 and sophomore Grace Loftus finished 14th on a 23:20.9.

A great weekend for the Havre harriers will put them in good spirits for the future meets as the end of the season draws closer. The teams are focused on making noise at state and, after the show put on in Glasgow, the teams will have a good confidence boost going forward.

“All-in-all I can’t complain,” Holt said. “I’m pleased with their performance.”

The Ponies will compete at the Helena 7-on-7 meet Thursday at the Bill Roberts Golf Course.
