Havre heads to Glendive and Miles City for Northeast A showdowns
The Havre High volleyball team has had a promising season so far and will look to keep on trucking this week as they take on two Northeastern A opponents - the Glendive Red Devils and the Miles City Cowgirls.
The Blue Ponies' first match of the week will be a road-game against the Red Devils, a team looking to overcome the strong Blue Ponies.
Havre High head coach Tamecia Jarvis is looking forward to the week and is ready to stay consistent in the Northeastern A conference.
"We feel pretty good," said Jarvis. "We always feel good going into them. These are conference games, so it's important to us that we finish these and come out on top."
It will be a very exciting match for the Ponies because they will be playing a very good Glendive team. The Red Devils are currently undefeated in conference play, having won against Miles City, Lewistown and Sidney so far this season.
Glendive's last match against the Miles City Cowgirls was a sweep, the scores being 25-10, 25-19 and 25-19. The match was a showcase of dominance by Glendive and has proven that the team is a tough one to take down.
The Red Devils have a standout player on the squad, senior Meadow Torres. Torres has led her team to achieve great heights so far this season and is definitely a player on the Glendive club that Havre will have to contain.
The Ponies are also a very tough team to play. Havre has so far claimed wins over conference teams like Sidney and Lewistown already. The girls will now have to make sure they can top the rest of their Northeastern conference. Winning over Glendive is the first step and the match will certainly be heated.
The Blue Ponies have boasted a powerful squad of talent so far. The seniors on the team have especially stepped on to the court and put in some great work. Their last match against conference opponent Lewistown showed just how dominant Havre can be when playing at their level.
HHS racked up 50 kills, 49 assists, 65 digs, 11 blocks and 22 aces against the Golden Eagles, numbers that many see as a great showcase for the Ponies.
Seniors Jessa Chvilicek, Peyton Brown, Cassidy Acor, Sam Oliver and Sydney Wilting have been working together to run the machine that is the Havre club.
Acor and Chvilicek have proven to be a force in both kills and blocks so far in the season, often being the ones who make big plays in the matches. Brown and Oliver stand out as great players when it comes to assists and digs, making sure the Ponies stay on good footing throughout the match. Wilting has also made big contributions to the team with impressive numbers in the digs and aces categories.
Overall, the match between the Blue Ponies and the Red Devils will be a competitive, heated match that will help decide who rules the Northeast A conference.
Havre's next conference match is Saturday as the team heads down to Miles City to play the Cowgirls.
Jarvis also feels good about the matchup between the Ponies and the Cowgirls.
"We saw them in the beginning of the year," Jarvis said. "But everybody's improving, so it'll just be fun to get out there and see how we compete with them."
Miles City has had some struggles this season so far, losing a big conference game to Glendive, but have also had some promise in conference games. The Cowgirls played a heated match against the Lewistown Golden Eagles last Thursday.
Miles City played five sets against Lewistown and proved to be a competitive team to face. The Cowgirls defeated the Golden Eagles 3-2, with the set scores being 25-23, 27-25, 25-20, 25-21 and 15-4. The intense match between the twos teams proves that Miles City will be a tough competitor to face if left unchecked.
The Ponies have proved so far that they have what it takes to control the Northeast A conference. On top of that, Havre has also taken down many teams in the Eastern A like Browning, who they beat twice in the season currently. The Blue Ponies have also beat and competed with several Class AA teams, too.
HHS took down Great Falls High earlier in the season, as well as taking third place in the consolation bracket against the Class AA elite. Teams like Belgrade, Missoula Hellgate and Bozeman fell to the Ponies in the Electric City Classic, proving that the Ponies are a team that plays at a very high level.
In the end, the match between Havre and Miles City will be a big test of consistency for the Ponies to see if they can stay ahead in the Northeastern A conference.
Havre High will face Glendive on the court Friday at 4 p.m. in Glendive. The Blue Ponies will then move on to Miles City Saturday to play the Cowgirls at 10 a.m.
