Hi-Line Volleyball Roundup
It was supposed to be another busy week of volleyball on the Hi-Line but, for some, the weather got in the way.
Still, there were plenty of big matches played last week.
In the District 6C East, Chinook took care of Chester-Joplin-Inverness last Thursday night, sweeping the Hawks by scores of 25-10, 25-11 and 25-15. Chinook was dominant with 21 kills, with 10 coming from Delaney Kellam. She also had two blocks, while Ginger Hauer finished with 16 assists and 11 digs, and Lily Surber added four of Chinook's 11 aces.
It was a big weekend for the Sugareeters, as they also beat arch rival Fort Benton in a five-set thriller Saturday. Chinook beat the Longhorns by scores of 16-25, 19-25, 25-19, 25-15 and 15-11.
In the Beeters' exciting comeback, Kellam had 12 kills and four blocks, while Jayden Miller tallied 22 digs. The Longhorns got 19 kills and five blocks from McKenzie Clark.
In other matches involving the 6C East last week, Big Sandy fell to Geraldine/Highwood Thursday, by scores of 25-19, 25-17 and 25-23. However, the Pioneers rebounded to beat district rival Hays-Lodge Pole by scores of 25-18, 25-14 and 25-11 on Friday night. Friday also saw North Star sweep Box Elder by scores of 25-6, 25-9 and 25-20 in a dominant conference win.
Last Saturday also saw Big Sandy's match against Centerville and CJI's match with Dutton-Brady canceled due to weather.
In the 6C East standings at the midway point in the season, Chinook is 5-0 and alone in first place. North Star is in second place at 3-1, followed by CJI (2-2), Box Elder (2-3), Big Sandy (1-4) and HLP (0-2).
There's more 6C East matchups one tap for this week, but Saturday, area teams will take a break and play in mid-season tournaments.
North Star will be holding its North Star Showcase Saturday in Rudyard and Gildford, while more area teams will attend the Fort Benton Tournament.
