The Montana State University-Northern volleyball team escaped the winter storm that blasted Havre Saturday. But, things weren't any more calm in Helena.
Saturday afternoon, the Skylights were sept by the Carroll College Fighting Saints on the road, by scores of 25-17, 25-19 and 25-23, dropping Northern to 0-4 in the Frontier Conference.
Northern had a strong hitting performance, finishing at a .143 clip, which is higher than the Skylights average this season. But, despite falling in the second and third sets, Carroll's hitting was even better. The Fighting Saints hit .303 for the day, including .389 in the second set. Tyler Krantz and Sophia Spoja each had 10 kills for the Saints, while Krantz added five of Carroll's seven blocks.
Offensively, Northern was led by Rylee Burmester's 12 kills, to go along with 19 digs and one ace. Katia Michelotti had eight kills, as did Shanai Neubauer, while Tammy Maddock had a block and Hailey Warren had 30 assists and 11 digs.
The Skylights (6-11) will be back at home Friday night when they host Rocky Mountain College at 7 p.m. inside the Armory Gymnasium.
