News you can use
From Tee to Green
What? Am I seeing that right? Snow and possibly a lot of it in the forecast for later this week.
Ugh. I guess its only fitting that it would snow since today is the final From Tee to Green for 2019.
Talk about depressing.
But I will do my best to make this column upbeat, especially since, there’s plenty of golf left to be played.
That’s right, despite the forecast, my Havre Blue Ponies still have the postseason to play, so I’ll use this moment to wish all my players good luck at divisional in Sidney, and state in Laurel.
I’d also like to thank each and every one of you who came out for high school golf this season. It was an honor to coach all of you, I hope you learned a thing or two about the sport, and I hope the future of HHS golf continues to grow.
Golf isn’t over yet for the Montana State University-Northern teams either. The Lights and Skylights are playing this week at the Carroll College Invitational in Helena and will conclude the fall season at Lewis-Clark State next week. I’ll try to get the results from both of those tournaments and make sure they’re in the sports pages.
Golf probably isn’t over for you diehards either.
Sure, there will be cold days, rainy days and apparently even snowy days — again — ugh. But no matter what the weather holds and no matter how many leaves start to come down, there will still be fall golf days ahead. However, they are numbered, so enjoy them while they last because it’s a long, long way until spring.
Finally, as I always do when ending this column for the year — and by the way, this is my 16th year of writing the local golf report — I have to say some thank-yous before I say goodbye.
First, thanks to league secretaries Jeremy Jensen, Justin Hawley and Kelsey Ward for making sure I got our golf league results every week.
Second, thank you to all of you who put on great tournaments and events this past summer. Without all of you and your hard work, the local golf scene wouldn’t be what it is.
And also, a big thank-you to Prairie Farms Golf Course and Beaver Creek Golf Course and your staffs. If it weren’t for you guys and gals, at both courses, we wouldn’t have the golf experience we do each spring, summer and fall. So thanks again.
With that being said, it’s time to say goodbye. I can’t tell all of you how much I enjoy writing this column. I love it because I love golf and I love golf in Havre — so naturally, I love to tell all of you who share that with me about it.
Needless to say, writing and reporting golf has been a passion of mine and it keeps growing, just like playing and, now, coaching the game does.
But as much as I love it, all good things must come to an end, and this is one of those times.
So goodbye golf season. I’ll see you again next spring; I can’t wait.
And I can't wait for this column to come back next year, too, because this is what I love to do.
