When it comes to volleyball, the Malta M-Ettes have been a thorn in the side of are teams for years, but, last week, the tide got turned.
First, Chinook took down the M-Ettes in four games last Tuesday. The Sugarbeeters beat Malta by scores of 25-20, 25-8, 19-25 and 25-21 as Delaney Kellam had nine kills and three blocks, while Ginger Hauer had 25 assists and nine digs.
Then, Thursday night, it was Harlem's turn. The Wildcats have had a strong season thus far, and it got better when they beat the M-Ettes in a five-set thriller. Harlem won by scores of 25-14, 23-25, 25-15, 20-25 and 15-6. Sarah Billmayer had six kills and 10 aces for Harlem, while Shyan Krass had six kills and four blocks and Neveah Spotted Eagle added 12 digs in a great win for Harlem.
In District 6C action this past week, the Chester-Joplin-Inverness Hawks started things off with a sweep of Big Sandy back on Tuesday night in Chester. The Hawks won by scores of 25-20, 25-20 and 25-23, getting 13 kills and nine digs from Sam May.
Big Sandy suffered another conference sweep Thursday night, as the Pioneers fell to North Star by scores of 25-9, 25-6 and 25-11.
Jade Wendland had seven kills and two blocks for North Star, while Olivia King had seven kills and 12 service aces. Amanda Cline was strong defensively for Big Sandy with eight digs.
The weekend was also a tough one for Rocky Boy. Saturday night, the Morning Stars lost to Cut Bank in a District 1B match, by scores of 25-19, 25-23 and 25-11. Jeralyn Parker had 13 kills in the loss for Rocky Boy.
Other area matches this past week saw Harlem defeat Box Elder by scores of 25-18, 25-18 and 25-10, Chinook top Box Elder 25-13, 25-12 and 25-20, CJI down Sunburst 25-16, 25-12 and 25-20, and North Star beat Valier 25-27, 25-19, 25-18 and 25-15.
