The Fort Belknap Indian Community has posted the official list of candidates for the Fort Belknap Community Council 2019 primary election, which will be Tuesday, Oct. 1.
The list of certified candidates was published Sept. 6. The revised election ordinance for the tribe requires that the names of the candidates for the election to be posted no less than 25 days prior to the primary election.
Running for the River Gros Ventre District representative seat are incumbent Dominic Messerly and challengers Virgil M. (Stonechief) Talks Different and Arlene (Healy) Cochran.
Running for Mountain Gros Ventre District representative seat are Geno LeValdo and incumbent Warren D. Morin.
The race for Gros Ventre at-large/representative elected by Gros Ventre voters has eight different candidates running for the office, incumbent Jeffrey J. Stiffarm Sr. and challengers Jay W. Mount, Stephen (Dale) Fox III, Lorraine Brockie, William Cochran, Cecelia (Boppers) Shortman, Randall C. Werk Sr. and Blake Stiffarm.
The race for Gros Ventre at-large/representative elected by both tribes has six candidates running for the office: Velva Stiffarm Boore, Lana K. Stiffarm, YoungBill (Billy) Running Fisher, Brenda Essert, Wes Kill Eagle Sr. and Mike (Gopher) Fox.
Incumbent Nathaniel Mount is facing off against candidates Wesley Medicine Bear, Rochelle King Healy and Donald (Duck) Horn for the office of River Assiniboine District representative.
For the office of Mountain Assiniboine District representative incumbent Lynn Cliff Jr. is running against challengers Warren R. Bell and Tyler Allen.
Incumbent Curtis D. Horn is facing off against challengers Edward (Buster) Moore and Judith J. King for the office of Assiniboine at-large/representative elected by the Assiniboine voters.
The race for the office of Assiniboine at-large/representative elected by both tribes has incumbent Brandi L. King competing against challengers Duane Buck Jr. and John A. Allen.
Each of the office are two-year terms.
