The Havre High volleyball team has had a very strong season so far and continued that trend when the Blue Ponies played the Sidney Eagles Saturday.
The Ponies swept the Eagles in a very competitive Eastern A showdown in the Sidney High Gymnasium, winning with the final set scores 25-17, 25-14 and 25-15.
Havre head coach Tamecia Jarvis was proud of the showing her girls had.
“The girls played really well,” Jarvis said. “They made my job easy because I really didn’t have to do a whole lot, just fixing a couple corrections here and there. Other than that, the girls played great.”
Havre dominated all three sets, holding the Eagles to a max of 17 points. The Ponies had similar numbers against another Class A rival, Browning, proving Havre has stayed consistent so far with keeping Class A teams at bay.
The Blue Ponies put up great numbers on the court. Players like senior Jessa Chvilicek continued to be a force for Havre, racking up and leading with five aces, three blocks and 14 kills. Fellow seniors Cassidy Acor and Sam Oliver also put up some good numbers against the Eagles.
Acor put up eight kills and a block, while Oliver racked up two aces and five kills. Junior Sydney Wilting contributed five aces and 10 digs, while senior Peyton Brown put up 21 assists and nine digs. Senior Kinsey Adkins helped keep the ball up with six digs of her own, too.
Sidney gave Havre a very heated match. The Eagles had 19 kills, 17 assists, six aces, 58 digs and two-and-a-half blocks, which gave the Eagles some very padded stats to prove they did not let the Blue Ponies win easily. It is no surprise Sidney battled it out to the very end. After all, the Eastern A is always very good at being one of the more intense conferences in Class A.
Even with all the standout talents that were presented on the court, Jarvis saw it as more of a unified entity than a single player.
“Everyone played together as a team,” Jarvis said. “Not one person stood out. I think everybody had a pretty well-rounded, good match.”
The Blue Ponies played really well and were on fire for the whole math. It was enough to where Jarvis could not place one specific highlight on the game, but she was very happy to see the support her team had for the road-game in Sidney.
“I think having our other two teams with us was good for us,” Jarvis continued. “We had a cheering section out in the crowd for us, and, so I think that was fun for the girls. I just think that they had fun out there. That’s the biggest thing I would think.”
Now, two more Class A teams are in the Ponies' path to the top, one of them being another Eastern A rival, Lewistown. The club will play another match against the Browning Indians Thursday at 4 p.m. in the Browning High Gymnasium, then travel to Lewistown Golden Eagles Saturday at 2. p.m.
Both matches will test the Blue Ponies’ consistency and grit in the Eastern A.
