Pony spikers take third in their bracket in Great Falls

Havre High puts on a strong showing against Class AA volleyball powers

The Havre High volleyball team had a great weekend at the Electric City Classic in Great Falls.

The Blue Ponies played many different Class AA teams throughout pool play and the tournament, taking third place in the Saturday consolation tournament bracket.

Havre head coach Tamecia Jarvis was pleased with the results of the weekend.

"The girls played well," said Jarvis. "They (opponents) are AA schools, so they performed very well."

Havre split with some teams in the pool play in the tournament, but overall had a very proud performance among the Class AA elite.

The Blue Pony spikers had some experience with Class AA teams before the tournament, both the Great Falls High and CMR High. Havre defeated Great Falls High 3-1 and lost to CMR 3-0.

The girls definitely flexed their prowess and used these games as a motivation throughout the Electric City Classic.

"We split most of our games except for two," said Jarvis about the Electric City Classic. "We lost both of our sets to (Butte)."

Havre made their way to the top three in their bracket at Great Falls High Saturday.

The Ponies played in the consolation round and played their first match against former Central A rival Belgrade, winning the match. The Ponies then moved up the bracket to play a dominant Butte High club, in the end falling to the Bulldogs.

Havre began its run to third place, starting by winning their match against the Missoula Hellgate Knights, then the Blue Ponies defeated Bozeman to claim third place.

Taking third at a Class AA tournament is quite the accomplishment for the Blue Ponies and will give them a good push of determination throughout the rest of their season.

Havre has a good record moving forward and if they keep up the intensity and skill that's been showcased so far in the season, the girls have a good shot at a possible deep playoff run in the future.

There is a lot of hype surrounding the Blue Pony volleyball team and so far the team has mostly lived up to that hype.

The Blue Ponies next match will be against Conrad at the Havre High gymnasium Thursday and then they'll play Sidney Eagles Saturday at 1 p.m. in Sidney.
