Local youths awarded NILE Merit Heifers

Morgan Friede of Chinook and Lance Rutledge of Big Sandy were among the youths that Northern International Livestock Expo announced are the recipients of 2020 NILE Merit Heifers.

The recipients will receive heifers from their donors this fall, then, after a year of monthly reports and breeding the heifers they will show them at the 2020 NILE in Billings and then take full ownership of the cattle.

“We’re excited to see young people interested in agriculture and specifically beef cattle,” NILE said in a release announcing the recipients, adding, “Thank you donors — we couldn’t do this amazing program without you.”

The 2019 recipients will show their heifers during the NILE Merit Heifer Show Friday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m. in the Ford F150 EcoBoost Arena at the Expo Center during the NILE Stock Show and Rodeo.

Peterson Land & Cattle of Havre is donating the heifer to Friede and Lost Creek Red Angus of Molt is donating Rutledge’s heifer.
