Letter to the Editor - Thanks and congratulations on Woofstock

We want to congratulate Friends of the Havre Animal Shelter for hosting the second annual, and very successful, Woofstock. We are very grateful to the Friends for allowing us, the Havre Dog Park Club, to have a fundraising table at the Pepin Park event. Thanks also to the many people who bought our T-shirts and bandannas or donated money to help us open Havre’s first dog park.

It’s been brought to our attention that some people thought Woofstock was a fundraiser for the dog park, and we want to make sure everyone knows that Woofstock helps pay for much more important services — the care of homeless or lost animals at the shelter, shelter improvements, free spay and neuter clinics, and other essentials. Sure, it’s going to be great to have a dog park in Havre, where dogs can play leash-free, but the work of the animal shelter and its Friends group protects the safety and well-being of our pet population.

So, thank you, Friends of the Havre Animal Shelter, for great music, craft beer and food. So many people and so many dogs in one place! Events like this and the work that you do make Havre a better place to live.
