From Montana State Parks
Montana State Parks will host a ranger-guided hike at First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park Sunday, Sept. 1, from noon to 2:30 p.m.
First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park is a National Historic Landmark and one of the largest buffalo jumps in North America. The visitor center and interpretive trails tell the story of the people, the animals and the landscape of the buffalo culture. In 2014, more than 17,000 people visited this state park.
People will hike with a Montana State Parks’ ranger to the top of First Peoples Buffalo Jump on the guided tour along the 3.5-mile roundtrip interpretive trail. They will learn about the jump’s history and how the First Peoples survived here long ago.
Cost for the hike is $4 per person and it will begin and end at the park’s Visitor Center. Participants should bring water, snacks and hat and wear appropriate footwear for the hike. Hike may be canceled in case of bad weather.
Due to the length of time and distance that will be covered walking, people should consider this a moderately strenuous walk. For more information, people can call the park visitor center at 406-866-2217.
