Woofstock returning to Havre Saturday

The second annual Woofstock is returning to Pepin Park from 4 to 8 p.m. with live music, vendors, food trucks and, of course, dogs.

The event is a fundraiser for Friends of the Havre Animal Shelter, which works to help provide services at the city facility.

“The purpose of this event is to keep raising funds for all things we have been doing, like we have implemented our trap-release program for cats,” Friends of the Havre Animal Shelter President Kim Federspiel said.

Some of the things Friends help fund include veterinaraion expenses outside of the shelter’s budget such as for surgeries, formula and medicines; food when the shelter is running low; the Trap Neuter Release Program, and putting on free spaying and neutering clinics.

“We have two programs through our nonprofit to assist the community in spaying or neutering their pets,” Federspeil said.

StrEATery and Parker’s Barbecue Pit are featured food trucks at the event, along with three local bands, Black Labbath, Blind Mutt and Scooby Snackson, playing live music.

Triple Dog Brewing Co. will be donating beer.

The event will have an agility course, a puppy kissing booth and a silent auction where people have donated items. Those donated items include a water fountain donated by Ben Franklin Crafts, dog food donated by North 40, grooming for a year with Hair of the Dog Grooming and two round-trip tickets to Billings on Cape Air.

Federspiel said she looks forward to seeing all the people and their dogs, seeing this community grow, promote healthy pet ownership, and seeing dogs from the shelter all grown-up.

Woofstock is the Friends of the Havre Animal Shelter’s biggest fundraiser.

People are allowed to bring their dogs, but they must be licensed with the city with proof licensing, and the dog must be on a leash at all time. For people who live outside the county, they have to provide a rabies vaccination sheet.

Havre City Council provided special approval to allow the dogs on the park on leashes. Dogs normally are not allowed in Havre City Parks.

Federspiel encouraged people to come by.

“It’s a very family-friendly event, we just hang out in the park and have fun,” Federspiel said.
