Local Golf Report: Blue Pony golf season starts soon

From Tee to Green

August is here, and there will be a lot going on in the world of local golf.

Included in that is the start of the 2019 Havre High Golf Season. The first official practice for Blue Pony golfers is Aug. 15, but, there are a couple of important dates and times HHS golfers need to know.

There will be a player sign-up meeting Aug. 12 at 6 p.m. in the Havre High library. All players planning on doing golf this season should attend the meeting. Parents of 2019 HHS golfers also should attend the HHS Fall Sports Parent Meeting, which will begin at 7 p.m. in the HHS auditorium. Also, everybody planning on playing golf for the Blue Ponies this season is reminded that they must have a completed sports physical before they can participate.

For any questions about the HHS golf team, please contact me at 390-4142.

And while HHS golf is about here, the month of August also got off to a hot start on the course, figuratively and literally.

First, congrats to both HHS Principle Ed Norman and Havre's Pete Stiffarm for recording hole-in-one's on the same day. Stiffarm had an ace during the Rosette Memorial Golf Tournament Saturday at Beaver Creek Golf Course, while Norman aced the par-3 14th hole from 113 yards out at Hickory Swing in Great Falls. Congrats guys. I'm jealous!

Last week was also another good week of golf in league action.

At Prairie Farms Golf Course last Tuesday night, Patrick Construction was high team with 22.5 points. The team was composed of Brett Patrick, Jeff Brandon, Ken Wagner and Dave Clauson. Kyle Sheppard fired an excellent round of even-par 36 for low gross, while Tanner Veis was low net with a scorching 25.5.

Last Wednesday night saw Jeremy Jensen continue his red-hot play. He scorched Prairie again to the tune of a 3-under 33 for low-gross honors. Eric Wilting was low net at 28, and my boys from Korb Construction took high team for the second straight week with 24 points. The team was made up of Patch Wirtzberger, Scott Miller, Kyle Miller and Steve Mariani.

There are just two weeks left in the men's league regular season at Prairie Farms.

Last Thursday night in ladies league at Prairie, Northern Montana Hospital scored 24 points to earn high-team honors. The squad was made up of Patti Nault, Carol Culp, Mary Pizzini and Terri Earl. Teagan Fee and Sarah Spangler tied for low gross, each shooting 40, while Culp was low net at 30.5.

Last Thursday night at BCGC in men's league, Koeford Agency scored 22.5 points for high-team honors. The team was composed of Dan Rayl, Ed Boucher, Matt Boucher and Jase Stokes. Kyle Miller and Matt Jensen tied for low gross, each scoring a 38. Boucher and Steve Galbavy were low net with a 30.

There were two big tournaments last weekend in Havre. The Rosette Memorial was held at BCGC, and the Northern Montana Health Care Foundation Tournament was played at prairie Farms. I didn't receive any results from either tournament, but, I know they were full, and all had a great time. So, congrats to the winners, and to everybody who played, helped and worked on each of those big events.
