After a year away from the track, Relay For Life of North Central Montana returned this year and raised over $20,000, according to the local relay committee.
"The most significant part for me was the money we raised," Relay For Life Committee Co-Chair Donna Tilleman said. "I was not expecting to raise that much, I actually set the goal kind of low and we doubled it."
The total amount raised at the 2019 event was $20,083.07 with 11 registered teams.
"To raise just a little over 20 thousand dollars after not having a relay event last year, I think it's pretty amazing," Tilleman said.
Tilleman and other committee members agreed during a meeting Sunday that despite the rainy weather conditions and the amount of mosquitos, it was overall a good relay.
American Cancer Society Community Development Manager Kris Holmes proposed an option to the committee of holding a separate relay in Havre along with Keeping the one in Chinook.
"Everything would be based here in Havre and hopefully somebody will be a contact person in Chinook and take charge there to get Blaine County up and going again," Tilleman said.
It takes a whole year to plan the Relay For Life event, so the committee will meet next month to start planning and to pick a date for next year.
It is yet to be determined when the next Relay For Life in the area will be, but the committee said members of the community is welcome to join any meeting and help out with volunteering or providing more information and ideas. The committee meets once or twice a month, and the time and location of the next meeting is to be determined.
