Rocky Boy has water problems, post says

The Chippewa Cree Tribe of the Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation announced on their Facebook page Thursday that the reservation is currently experiencing water source problems and is encouraging people who use water conservatively.

“Box Elder should be getting water now and (Tribal Water Resource Department) will be distributing water to the people that are out, and it is safe to drink,” the tribe said in a post.

The Chippewa Cree Tribal Business Committee and the water resource department did not respond to multiple requests for comment made Thursday and today by print deadline this morning

The post says that due to the low supply of water, people are encouraged to use water conservatively and for essential use only. In another post the tribe provided tips for how to conserve water:

• Start cutting back on the amount of water used and freeze 1 to 2 liters so people have a backup supply.

• Reduce time while in a shower.

• Wipe down all dishes with a damp cloth and do dishes every second-day, or make use of paper plates that can be recycled.

• Invest in dry shampoo, anti-bacterial wipes and hand sanitizer to reduce water usage.

• Fill a 2-liter bottle with drinking water each day and use that for drinking.

• Repair all leaking faucets, and if someone has a leaking faucet, place a 2-liter bottle or bowl to catch water and use to drink and do dishes.

• Turn the water off while brushing their teeth, washing their face or hands and while shaving.
