Locals ride in NHSFR

A pair of local contestants competed at last weeks Cinch National High School Finals Rodeo in Rock Springs, Wyoming.

The NHSFR ran July 14-20, with local rodeo standouts Mary Gibson and Cole Hould competing.

Gibson, who will be a freshman at Havre, competed in goat tying in Wyoming, where she finished 19th in performance 2, and 23rd in performance 13. Overall, Gibson's average was a 36.96 for 105th place.

Hould, who is home schooled, and is in grade 11, competed in the bull riding at the NHSFR, but didn't turn in a qualified ride.

Featuring more than 1,650 contestants from 43 states, five Canadian provinces, Australia and Mexico, the NHSFR is the world's largest rodeo. In addition to competing for more than $150,000 in prizes, NHSFR contestants also compete for more than $375,000 in college scholarships and the chance to be named an NHSFR World Champion. To earn this title, contestants must finish in the top 20 - based on their combined times/scores in the first two rounds - to advance to Saturday evening's final round. World champions are then determined based on their three-round combined times/scores.
