A wild, windy Great Northern Open Rodeo

Each year the rodeos are one of the highlights of the Great Northern Fair and over the past two days, patrons have gotten their fill with the Junior Rodeo taking place Wednesday night followed by the Great Northern Ram Open Rodeo Thursday night.

Both events took place at the Great Northern Fairgrounds and as far as the open rodeo Thursday was concerned, there was plenty of action from the cowboys and cowgirls who came to Havre to compete.

One of the biggest prizes is generally saved for bull riding and that was the case again at the Great Northern Open Rodeo as Clay Applegate walked away with $750 after a score of 75 gave him first in the marquee event. He was the only participant to register a score. Yet, Applegate wasn't the biggest individual winner. That honor belonged to Casey Solomon, who took home $950 after she won breakaway roping with a time of 4.62.

Judd Appelgate also won $750 in prize money after scoring 73 points to win the saddle bronc riding while another big prize was in team roping, as Tyler and Clay Doney took home a combined $1,218 after winning that event with a time of 7.56. Josh Granell and John Bell also won $1,008 after finishing second.

In the ladies barrel race Haley Glasrud finished first and won $680 following a winning time of 15.56. Ty Murphy was the first-place finisher in the wild bronc ride and earned $420 after scoring 69 points to take home the top prize. J.C. Guardipee also found the winner's circle in tie-down roping, which made him $391 in prize money.

In the junior events, Ashlyn Ford finished first in the barrel race and won $130. Laney Johnson matched that effort in junior breakaway roping winning $123 after capturing first place with a ride of 10 seconds flat.
