The heart of summer is here and that means that baseball season is hitting the home stretch, not only for American Legion baseball, but also for youth all-star teams that have been traveling across the state for tournament after tournament.
This week, however, the Havre 14U All-Stars will be at home, as they are hosting and participating in the 14U state tournament, which will be right here in Havre, with all games being played at Legion Field starting Friday. The teams that will be competing with the 14U All-Stars, who are coached by Jake Eldridge, are Belgrade and a team from Glacier. The action will get underway Friday 3 p.m. at Legion when Havre will take on Glacier.
Glacier and Belgrade will then continue pool play Friday, when they go head-to-head with each other at 5:30 p.m. Havre will then close out its second game of pool play by taking on Glacier to wrap up the round-robin portion of the tournament. First pitch in that contest is set to go out at 8 p.m.
The team with the best record will advance to the championship game of the tournament and it will face the winner of the semifinal game between the second and third-place teams in the pool. That first game Saturday morning will be at 8 a.m., followed by the state title game at 11 a.m.
Each team will be guaranteed to play at least three games in the tournament, with two coming Friday and then at least one more Saturday. Eldridge will be assisted by Adam and his roster will feature Jayce Jensen, Kale Reno, Randy Tommerup, Brody Nanini, Lane Kinsella, Trigg Mapes, Conner McKay, Drake Berreth, Justin Rosgaard, Kale VanCampen, Terek Shipp and Landen Keeling.
The 14U state tournament will be part of a busy weekend of baseball at Legion Field, as the youth All-Stars will play games there Friday night and Saturday morning, before giving way to Legion baseball at 3 p.m. when the Northstars will host Vauxhall to close out their 2019 regular season schedule.
The 14U All-Stars will open their state tournament Friday at 3 p.m. The state championship is scheduled for Saturday morning at 11.
