The Havre Dog Park Club is hosting Bark in the Park 5K fun run/dog walk the morning of Saturday, July 13, at the future Havre Dog Park south of town
“The purpose of the event is to get people up to the location of the new park and get them excited about it,” Havre Dog Park Club member Shannon Bergren said. “We hope to raise enough funds to get the first phase, including fencing, paid for.”
Along with the 1 mile or 5K run/walk, the event includes vendors, food, a silent auction, contests and more. Contests include biggest and smallest dog, best owner/dog look-alike and best dog costume.
The event will have three judges including Havre Animal Control Officer Pete Federspiel, and contest judging will begin at 11 a.m. Winners will receive a trophy and a prize.
“I’m looking forward to seeing all the dogs getting out and about,” Bergren said. “It will be so much fun to see the contest entries. I’m hoping some people have some really neat costumes for their pups.”
The Havre Dog Park Club will have T-shirts for people and bandanas for their dogs. T-shirts will be $25 and bandanas $10.
All dogs must be registered with the city and on a leash at all times. Proof of rabies vaccination is also required to participate.
The pre-registration cost is $10 and is available at Hair of the Dog Grooming, East Side Animal Hospital and Old Station Brewery Co. and it will be $15 for day-of registration.
The future dog park is at 2585 Fifth Ave., south of the Havre Ice Dome, with registration starting at 8:30 a.m. and the event running 9 a.m. through 1 p.m.
