News you can use

Hello, God. It's me, Mara.

Happy Fourth of July

You know, Lord, there are as many ideas and thoughts about anything as there are unique individuals! If ten people were discussing firecrackers, Fourth of July picnics, America, freedom of speech, war, you name it, and there would be 10 different strong feelings about any one of those topics.

Your word, (1Peter 2:17) tell us to “… Fear God and honor the government, (king, ruler, emperor).” May America continue to be a country in which everyone has an equal opportunity to be what they desire to become. Thank You, Lord, that there is no caste or class to keep a person from going to the top as long as he/she has the will to work and to study. One can get ahead regardless of one’s background.

The following thoughts were gleaned from a variety of sources, and are heartfelt feelings about our great land.  Righteousness exalts a nation even though we are living in an era of dwindling regard for authority. Your word tells us to “pray for rulers and all who have authority.” We are to ask You for three things for our leaders:

1) Humility. Humility comes before honor.

2) Wisdom. Solomon said, ‘The fear of the Lord precedes Wisdom’ (for 1 and 2, read, Proverbs 15:33.)

3) Courage. David said: ‘Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart. (Psalms. 27:14.)

And why are we to do this? Because it pleases You, Lord, it’s that simple.  In the face of global terrorism, war, financial upheavals and a climate of fear, pray that God will give our leaders the strength of character to do what is right, instead of what’s popular.

Thank You, Lord, for allowing us to live in the greatest, grandest, and most free land the world has ever known. Happy Birthday American and God Bless the U. S. A.!

Love, Mara
