Baldwin relishes his time on the links during Rotary Camp
Golf is hard, golf is challenging, and, at times, golf can even be a little stressful. In other words, it's anything but easy.
But, thanks to the hard work and dedication of passionate golf folks like Jim Kato, Doug Sheppard, Jeremy Jensen, and so many others, youth golf in Havre is also a whole lot of fun.
This week, the 12th annual Rotary Youth Golf Camp was held at Prairie Farms, where 38 kids, ranging from ages 9-18, took part. The camp has been a summer staple for many years, and has helped countless kids learn to enjoy the difficult game of golf.
One of those youngsters this week is Evan Baldwin, a 7th-grader at St. Jude Thaddeus School. Baldwin has been participating in golf camp for four summers now, and, on Wednesday, he was showing off his swing, playing seven holes on the tough, but fun, Prairie Farms course.
And while Baldwin said he is certainly into other sports, he admits, golf is becoming something he really enjoys, and, the Rotary Youth Camp is a big reason why.
Now, however, there will be more ways that local youth golfers can learn and enhance their game, as starting next week, the Havre Youth Summer League will begin at Prairie Farms. The league, which will be run by former Havre High great Jeremy Jensen, is open to boys and girls entering grades 6-9, and will be a great way for young golfers who want to hone their skills heading into high school to do so.
