In sports, there are few finishes more exciting than a walk-off home run and Wednesday night, at the Sixth Avenue Memorial Field, that's exactly what the fans in attendance got to see.
The Havre Youth Softball Association was hosting the city championship for its B League, which is for players in fifth and sixth grade and the matchup between Henry Construction and Brandon's went down to the wire before it was ultimately decided by a two-run, walk-off, inside-the-park home run by Camielle Keeley.
Keeley came to the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning, with her team, Henry Construction facing a 7-6 deficit. Brandon's needed to beat Henry Construction twice in order to win the championship and was three outs away from extending the championship series after falling behind 5-1 after the first inning.
Yet, with the league title on the line, Henry Construction started to heat up. Two hits brought home a run and put a runner on second base when Keeley came to bat. The youngster ripped a ball to left-center, driving it all the way to the wall. The tying run scored easily and Keeley was able to beat the throw to home plate, giving her a home run and her team the championship, thanks to a dramatic 8-7 victory.
Michelle Oliver and Shawn Keeley coached Henry Construction to the championship and were helped with a roster that included Kamree Oliver, Camielle Keeley, Brenna Hanson, Joella Bradley, Ariana Gary, Amaya Jarvis, Lundon Brown, Emily Marsh, Adi Olson and Kami Scheele.
The team representing Brandon's was coached by Phil Gingery and featured Hailey Gingery, Hayden Olson, Hailey Ball, Alaura Moore, Emily Leeds, Jaicee The Boy, Liddle Morse, Eva Williams, Selah Dawson and Callie Bebee as players.
