GLENDIVE - Twenty-five Miss Montana and Miss Montana's Outstanding Teen contestants from across the state including Havre's Samantha French and Chinook's Kourtney Hanson arrived in Glendive Sunday fore the 70th Miss Montana Scholarship Pageant, and the 15th held in Glendive.
Mayor Jerry Jimison has welcomed the contestants all 15 years of his 18 in office.
He proclamed this week as Miss Montana Scholarship Program Week to Montana 2018 Laura Haller of Helena and June 16-21 as Miss Montana's Outstanding Teen Week to 2018 Miss Montana's Outstanding Teen, Cammy Heck of Sidney and teen contestants.
Contestants are treated like royalty during the week as Lions, Rotary, homemakers clubs and restaurants prepare meals for the contestants and local families host them. The Glendive Chamber sponsors the "Show us Your Shoes" parade Friday at 1 p.m. followed by an ice cream social. The contestants also perform community service during their busy week and each has a little princess to greet them on stage.
Contestants compete June 20, 21 and 22 at 7 p.m. at the DCHS Auditorium for $37,000 in scholarships with each Miss Montana contestant receiving at least $950 and a chance to represent Montana at the Miss America Pageant. Montana's chosen teen advances to the Miss America's Outstanding Teen pageant in Orlando July 23-27.
Tickets are $15 Thursday, $20 Friday and $25 Saturday or $50 for all three nights with the crowning of Montana's Outstanding Teen Friday night and Miss Montana Saturday evening. Patron tickets in center front are $60. Tickets to the show, the Friday night Gala and Saturday's Royal Tea at noon at the EPEC are available at the Glendive Chamber, Farm to Table Store, http://www.missmontana.com and at the door.
The public can vote for Montana's Choice online at http://www.missmontana.com with $1 per vote. The contestant with the most votes earns a scholarship and a spot as one of the finalists during the final night of competition.
