Lights Out at the Dome 3 entertains throngs of local MMA fans
For the last two years, the Lights Out at the Dome Mixed Martial Arts show has been a fan favorite in Havre. And it's also been a big help to Montana State University-Northern wrestling.
So, there was no doubt Lights Out at the Dome 3 was going to do the same, and it didn't disappoint.
L.O.D.3, presented by Fusion Fight League was a big hit Saturday night inside the Havre Ice Dome, inside the cage, and out.
The show, which also helps raise funds for Northern wrestling, had a great crowd on hand, and featured some exciting MMA fights. The show was also televised live on SWX Montana.
The featured bout of the evening a 180-pound ICF professional fight between Gage Saunders and Jesse Gengler, and Saunders, who's developing a strong MMA reputation, took little time in getting Gengler to submit in the first round.
Another highlight of the night was a 160-pound Muay Thai fight, which is a bout in the standing position only, that went the distance between Cody Jerome and Tony Shurts. Jerome, a two-time Canadian May Thai champion from Lethbridge, outlasted Shurts in a full, three-round fight. Danny Shine also beat Andrew Huckeby with a choke hold in a 170-pound Fusion title fight as part of the main card. Another great fight on the main card was an emotional win for Chris Wagner, the holder of the Fusion 130-pound title, as he defeated Chaz Marsciano in a good match.
The large crowd was also on hand to cheer on MSU-N's Carlee Brown as she made her MMA debut in a 115-pound bout against Amy Lyczewiski. Brown, a former cross country runner at MSU-N, hung tough with the more-experienced Lyczewiski, landing several punches and kicks, and taking her to the ground in the first round. However, in the second round, Lyczewiski caught Brown in a hold that ultimately led to a win by submission. Still, it was an excellent showing by Brown, who had only been training for MMA for about three months prior to Saturday night.
The under card fights included Dalvin Young beating Wyatt Daniels by TKO in a 135-pound fight, former CMR state champion wrestler Kai Stewart knocking out Andrew Long at 145 pounds, Justin Million earning a second-round TKO over Tyler Kenney, in a fight that was both of their MMA debuts, and James Dennis getting an 11 second TKO over Dan Burwell at 180 pounds. Braeden Tovey also beat Bobby Moreno by submission at 155 pounds, while Quinton Tait scored a first-round TKO over Erik Sturchio at 170 pounds.
