Gas leak prompts Highland Park evacuations, road closures

12:40 p.m. — NorthWestern Energy announced that the area where the gas line was broken in Highland Park near Highland Park Early Primary School is isolated and repairs are being made. The fire department was released from the scene. The strong natural gas odor will dissipate now.

11:45 a.m. — Havre Public Schools announced that the summer lunch program and all activities at Highland Park Early Primary School were cancelled today due to a gas leak.

10:45 a.m. — Multiple units from Havre Fire Department were on the scene of a gas leak near Highland Park Early Primary School before 10 A.M. this morning.

At least two homes directly next to the school were evacuated, and Havre Police were redirecting traffic from 11th Street West along with firefighters, who blocked off Washington Avenue in front of the school.

The leak, which can be smelled from blocks away, is related to utility work that was being done near the north side of Highland Park Early Primary.
