There's just a little over two months until the Montana State University-Northern Skylights take to the volleyball court for their first season under veteran head coach Jerry Wagner.
Now, the Skylights also know the full extent of their 2019 schedule.
Northern released a partial volleyball schedule a couple of months ago, but recently, the schedule was updated with more matches.
The Skylights will open the regular season at the Big Sky Challenge in Butte Aug. 23-24, and will play their usual three non-conference tournaments to kick off the season. In Butte, Northern will face Evergreen State, Valley City State, Multnomah and Northwest University.
The non-conference slate continues Aug. 30-Sept. 1 with the Skylights traveling to the Arizona Christian Tournament in Phoenix. There, they'll play Park University twice, Arizona Christian, Dakota State and SAGU-American Indian College.
The final non-conference tournament will be in Great Falls, Sept. 6-7. In the University of Providence Tournament, Northern will face North Idaho, Benedictine University and Medicine Hat College.
Normally, that week marks the end of non-conference play for Northern, but MSU-N is increasing its competitive schedule under Wagner, and before the Skylights make their Frontier Conference debut Sept. 19 at Lewis-Clark State, they'll travel to Dickinson State for a match with the Blue Hawks, sparking a new rivalry with DSU in volleyball. Northern and DSU haven't met since the Blue Hawks spent one year in the Frontier, back in 2014.
MSU-N begins league play with two road matches, including a Sept. 21 trip to Montana Tech. Then, Sept. 25, the Skylights will make their regular season home debut against rival Providence, before traveling to Carroll College Sept. 28.
Northern begins October with a home match against defending Frontier champion Rocky Mountain College Oct. 4. That match starts a stretch of four straight home matches for the Skylights. After the annual Frontier Bye Week, Northern hosts Montana Western Oct. 19, Montana Tech Oct. 24 and LC State Oct. 25. The Skylights' final home match will be Nov. 1 against Carroll. MSU-N plays three of its last four on the road, with trips to Providence Oct. 31, Rocky Nov. 7 and Western Nov. 9. The annual Frontier Tournament is slated for Nov. 15-16 in Great Falls.
And while Northern makes its official home debut all the way on Sept. 25, MSU-N fans won't have to wait that long to see the Skylights inside the Armory Gymnasium. MSU-N is scheduled to host its annual Maroon/Gold Scrimmage Aug. 14, followed by an exhibition match against Medicine Hat Aug. 15. Northern is also reviving its Alumni Match. The 2019 Skylight Alumni Match is set for Aug. 17.
Northern officially opens its regular season Aug. 23-24 with four matches at the Big Sky Challenge in Butte.
