Hi-Line Athlete Profile: Aiyanna Goggles, Lights Football Camp

MSU-N camper Aiyanna Goggles not afraid to play football with the boys

Summer may not feel like the time for football but there will be plenty of football activities taking place at the Montana State University-Northern practice field this week as the Lights host a pair of youth camps this week.

MSU-N and head football coach Andrew Rolin are holding a K-5 camp, which goes from 9 a.m. till 11 a.m. and also a future Lights camp that features middle-school aged participants from 1 to 3 p.m. Both camps are running for four days, Monday through Thursday.

"These are fun," Rolin said at the K-5 camp Monday morning. "It's great to let these kids come out here and have some fun. They love to hit the bag and we had them run around. We are going to have them do sharks and minnows. We want to try and teach them some things like how to line up and do some basic things like that, but mostly, it's about fun."

Aiyanna Goggles, 10, is one of the MSU-N football campers, and she said that while she enjoys playing basketball and softball, she wanted the chance to play football.

"I just really like playing football," Goggles said. "It's probably my favorite sport."

Throughout the week, Goggles and the other campers, which numbered close to 40 for the K-5 age group, will learn about the game from Rolin and his staff, although the assistant coaches do most of the coaching.

"I like to sit back and watch these kids have fun," Rolin said. "It's a great day, and it's fun to see these kids flying around having a good time on a football field."

The camp runs for two hours each morning and while there are plenty of games and fun activities planned, such as posing in front of the MSU-Northern logo as a potential recruit might do, as well as some other games, a big part of the week is just introducing kids to the sport.

"We have some fun things like that we will do, let them pose like a recruit," Rolin said. "But that might be something the older kids get more. We are just trying to make it fun and show them what it's about."

Goggles, who said she is a fan of the Denver Broncos, is one young athlete that is getting to take advantage of the introduction to football this week. Following some of the drills and games Monday, the Havre Daily News caught up with Goggles for five questions.

HDN: What made you want to take part in football camp?

Goggles: "I really like football and always wanted to do it."

HDN: Which activity was the most fun?

Goggles: "The tackling."

HDN: What are you looking forward to learning about the most this week?

Goggles: "Just learning how it works and stuff like that."

HDN: Do you know what position you would like to play in football?

Goggles: "I am not sure. One where I could tackle."

HDN: Are you a fan of watching football?

Goggles: "Yes, I like to watch football. The Denver Broncos are my favorite team."
