BOZEMAN — Montana State University’s Continuing, Professional and Lifelong Learning program will offer a non-credit course this summer on writing about nature.
“Nature Writing in Big Sky Country: Journaling in the Last Best Place” will explore a range of Western literature and nature writing through readings, journaling and discussion. The course will meet from 3:30 to 6 p.m. on July 11, 18 and 25 and is taught by visiting scholar Peter B. Olson from Mississippi State University. It is open to the public.
Students will learn writing strategies in several forms that are key to nature writing, including journals, essays, reflective narratives and advocacy pieces. There will also be discussions on the writing process from brainstorming to publishing.
Students will also visit the Ivan Doig Archive and explore literary opportunities on MSU’s campus.
