Before former Havre High four-time state champion Parker Filius returns to Purdue for his sophomore wrestling season, he's got an amateur wrestling summer to do.
And, Filius' summer is off to a great start.
At last week's U23 Men's Freestyle World Team Trials at the Louis and Freda Stile Athlete Field House in Akron, Ohio, Filius placed seventh in the 65-kilogram weight class.
Filius needed :37 seconds to take a 10-0 match from Alex Madrigal of George Mason. Filius won five straight in wrestlebacks to get into the consolation quarterfinals, were he suffered an 11-5 loss to Cody Trybus of Navy-Marine Corps RTC. Overall, the Havre native finished the tournament at 8-2 with six technical falls.
Filius was the 149-pound starter for the Boilermakers as a red-shirt freshman, and was one of just five Purdue wrestlers to start in every dual last season. He won the Journeyman Collegiate Classic 149-pound B-Draw championship last season, and placed sixth at the Princeton Open.
Filius was one of four Purdue wrestlers to place at the U23 worlds.
