Blue Pony athletes racked up plenty of Class A honors this past year

With the school year coming to a close this week, that means that the hiatus on Havre High sports begins.

In fact, it actually started a couple of weeks ago when track, tennis and the other spring sports wrapped up their seasons.

Looking back, it was another incredibly successful year for Havre High athletics as the Blue Ponies not only captured Class A state championships in both girls basketball and boys swimming, HHS also had 32 different athletes earn Class A All-State honors in 12 different sports. Havre also crowned a pair of individual state champions in wrestling as both Martin Wilkie and Mick Chagnon won state championships at 145 and 103 pounds respectively.

A number of others were close in individual sports, and there were plenty who earned All-State honors.

The Pony girls nearly crowned state champions in both the 400 and 1,600-meter relays, while freshman Sadie Filius finished as the Class A runner-up in the 300 hurdles. She was also part of the 1,600 relay team that also featured Jessa Chvilicek, Loy Waid and Katie Wirtzberger. The 400-meter relay team that also finished second at state consisted of Filius, Chvilicek, Grace Loftus and Wirtzberger.

Filius was among two female athletes to earn All-State honors in multiple sports. The other honoree was junior Kadia Miller, who was All-State in cross country for the second straight year while also being named to the Class A All-State team in girls basketball, along with Filius and Kyndall Keller. All three played a key role in the Ponies winning a second consecutive Class A state championship.

Kobi Burchard, Angela Rhines, Aria Pratt, Hannah Lunak, Megan Miller and Blakelee Lines also placed at the state swimming meet, earning them All-State honors as well. Cassidy Acor earned All-State recognition in volleyball, while Kinzee Peterson was honored in softball.

In terms of male athletes, the Ponies had two football players earn All-State honors in Mason Dionne and Kasee Henderson. Connor Harris, Riley Pleninger, Cameron Pleninger, Orion Thivierge, Austin Ratliff and Lane Paulson all made All-State in wrestling and in swimming, the All-State awards went to Christian Mathis, Sergio Tamayo, Jacob Miller and Ammon Lines, Paxtin McCann and Hiram Cammon as they helped the Havre boys win the Class A state title.

Rounding things out in the spring for the boys were Tommy Brown and Tyrel Kjersem, who finished third at the Class A boys tennis meet.

Havre High also had 35 three-sport athletes this school year.
