Salvation Army welcomed back with open arms

Dozens of Havreites gathered outside Sally Ann's Salvation Army Thrift Store in the wind and rain Friday morning to be some of the first shoppers at the newly renovated second-hand store.

After a brief ribbon cutting ceremony led by Salvation Army Northwest Division General Secretary Capt. Jonathan Harvey and Havre store manager Carissa Minnick, the updated store was packed with eager shoppers.

"I'm very excited to see the community support for this store," Harvey said, adding that he appreciates Havre's willingness to donate and shop at Salvation Army, which helps generate funds for the company's myriad programs.

Friday shoppers got a first look at the store's updates which include a cleaner look, some reorganization, and the offering of brand-new furniture items.

Shopper Donna Miller said she was happy to have Salvation Army back, and that she was able to find a pair of chairs she had been needing within minutes of entering the store. Numerous attendees of the grand reopening left the store with their hands filled with new - to them - items.

Minnick took to Facebook Saturday night to thank the community and announce the success of the Salvation Army's reopening.

"This community made the reopening of the Salvation Army a huge success," she wrote. "... thank you to all that have donated and continue to donate, and thank you all that shop our location and support our local family store."

Beginning this week, the store will go to its normal hours of operation, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.

People are asked to drop off donated items - at the back door in the alley - between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday to make sure people can collect them so the items don't get wet, dirty or damaged.
