HELENA — Campers at Montana state parks will experience more flexibility when making campsite reservations at some parks this summer. reservations at Beavertail Hill, Black Sandy, Lewis and Clark Caverns, Placid Lake, Salmon Lake, Tongue River Reservoir, and Whitefish Lake state parks will now be available as little as one day before arrival.
In past seasons, all campsite reservations had to be made at least two days before campers arrived.
“The change will let our visitors to be more spontaneous when planning their camping trips,” said Pat Doyle, Marketing and Communications manager, “while still providing peace of mind that there will be a campsite waiting for them when they arrive.”
The summer reservation season runs from the third Friday in May through the third Sunday in September and campsites may be booked up to six months in advance of arrival. In recent years, reservations were available up to nine months in advance, but reducing the booking window will allow Montana State Parks more time to add new sites and make other updates to the reservation system between seasons.
