Area netters headed to B-C state tourney in Bozeman

CJI wins Northern B-C tennis girls divisionals in Havre

A host of area girls tennis players are headed to Bozeman for the Class B-C state tennis tournament.

After battling it out on the Bill Vaughey Memorial Tennis Courts in the Northern B-C girls divisional tournament last week, players from Harlem, Chinook and Fort Benton have earned their way into the state tournament.

The Chester-Joplin-Inverness Hawks won the Northern B-C title with 40 points, as Shivel Norvick captured the girls singles championship. She'll be joined by teammates Emma Wickum, who placed third, and Courtney Alley, who finished fourth in singles.

The Harlem Wildcats also had an outstanding week in Havre. It wasn't long ago that Harlem started tennis, and, in 2019, the Wildcats scored 37 points, to finish second at divisionals.

Harlem's Aspen Baker led the way by finishing second in singles, while the tandem of Aria Owens and Taeschon Schaefer finished second in doubles and Whitney Doney and Michael Anne Humphreys took third.

The Chinook duo of Jade Cecrle and Lilly Surber captured the doubles title for the Sugarbeeters, who placed third at the divisional tourney with 16 points.

All of the Northern B-C qualifiers will now head to Bozeman for the Class "B-C state tournament, which runs Thursday through Saturday.
