Press release
World Vision's Global 6K for Water had over 50,000 participants worldwide, with the Havre team, Walk4Water, formed by April Taber, giving 23 people in the total walking or running May 4 on the Baltrusch Nature Trail to support the cause.
Though the event was not timed, Sylas Thomas was first to finish the 6K, Vanessa Janssen second and Sara Lippy third.
All participant registration fees and individual donations went directly to World Vision to provide underdeveloped countries with clean water. With the money raised so far, Havre's Walk4Water was able to provide 52 people with clean water.
Fundraising is open until June 1.
To donate, people can go to http://www.worldvision6k.org, click on The Fundraiser Search box in the upper right corner, enter April Taber, and click Donate Now. $50 provides clean water to one person, but if people are unable to donate that amount other options are available - the last option is "Other" to enter any amount. Every dollar counts.
Local businesses donated gift certificates for a prize drawing which was held right before the race; and entrants thanked McDonald's, Taco John's, The Press Espresso Bar, Simply Natural Health Store, Fat Billy & the Boyz BBQ, Vizsla Brewing, and Henny Penny Cupcakes for those gifts. A thank-you was also extended to Wagner Plumbing, Bear Paw Veterinary Service, Brandon's Inc, The Infinity Bake Shoppe, and Aquatana for monetary donations, with added appreciation and thanks to the individuals who made personal donations.
The group also gave a big thank-you to Aquatana for donating bottled water, Gary & Leo's Fresh Foods for doughnuts, and McDonald's for sliced apples. Fifth Avenue Christian Church, Change for a Dollar program, assisted with supplies for the race, which was extremely helpful and generous.
Taber said she plans to host the event again next year, so people can save the date, May 16, 2020, to either walk or run the 6K or donate to the cause.
