Obituary - Larry Michael Een May 31, 1939-April 16, 2019

Larry Michael Een passed away in a care center in Tucson, Arizona, after a lengthy illness. Larry moved to Arizona in November from Boise, Idaho, to be near his daughters and grandchildren.

Larry was born in Havre, Montana, and spent his early years in Rudyard, Montana, in the farming community. He went to junior high in Havre and also attended Havre High School. He was to graduate in 1957 but dropped out six weeks before graduation. He and several of his buddies decided to join the U.S. Navy. He wasn't quite old enough so his father signed the consent. After four years in the Navy, he started college at the University of Montana. Upon graduation, his first teaching job was at Great Falls High. He also got an assistantship from Purdue University where he taught English and finished his master's degree. Later on, he worked on his Ph.D. at Nevada State in Reno.

Larry lived in many places including Reno, NV, Albuquerque, NM, Las Vegas, NV, Tombstone, AZ, and Boise, ID, but Montana was always in his heart and soul.

While residing in Vegas and Albuquerque he had a booking agency. He booked many famous country artists and met many new friends in Nashville and around the country. He was a very talented musician himself. Self-taught, he played lead guitar, bass guitar, fiddle, and banjo. When he was about 13 his dad would take him to play at a bar called Swing Inn in Havre. He also had his own band with his wife and they played in many places across the country.

He was also very interested in Native American culture and their languages. There was also not a "Jeopardy" question he'd couldn't answer, no matter what the subject. He would record Alex every night without fail. He always regretted never trying out for the show.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, A.J. "Smokey" Een, mother, Bonnie Een, his sister Karen, son, Eric, and his wife, Myra.

Survivors include his daughters Logan Sanders/Mark Sanders of Chandler AZ, Jenny Een Wittenberg/Dan of Tucson AZ, Sarah Een of Scottsdale, AZ; stepdaughter Kim Hostetter of Bradenton, FL; grandson Jaryd Neibauer/Erica of Phoenix, AZ, Payton Watkins of Tucson, AZ, and Ashley Ecker of Florida, Ashley also has three children; a sister Linda (Een) Caudillo/Jesse, Boise, ID; nephew Damon Preite and his daughter Giana, Boise, ID.

Larry will be greatly missed and remembered for his wicked dry sense of humor.

Cremation has already taken place and no services are planned. In his honor, his daughters will be donating money to the Havre High School music department.
