Crash of stolen vehicle causes death

Driver of vehicle reported stolen killed, passenger, driver of second vehicle hospitalized

12:05 p.m. Montana Highway Patrol reports that a vehicle reported stolen crashed into another vehicle while trying to evade police, leading to the death of the driver of the vehicle reported stolen and the hospitalization of its passenger and the driver of the other vehicle in the crash.

The crash was reported at 4:09 this morning.

Highway Patrol said Havre Police were in pursuit westbound on First Street in Havre of the vehicle reported stolen when it crashed at the intersection of First Street and 14th Avenue, by The Duck Inn and Uncle Joe's, into another vehicle eastbound on First Street.

The male driver of the westbound vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, Highway Patrol reports.

The female passenger of the westbound vehicle and the male driver of the eastbound vehicle were taken to Northern Montana Hospital for treatment of injuries, Highway Patrol reports.

Highway Patrol reports that speed is considered a factor in the crash and drugs and alcohol have not been ruled out as factors.

10 a.m. - Havre police said this morning that an early morning two-vehicle crash led to the death of one man and the hospitalization of another man and a woman.

Havre Assistant Chief of Police Jason Barkus said the Havre Police Department received a call at 4:09 .m. of a two-vehicle crash in front of the Duck Inn on First Street.

The driver of a west-bound vehicle was declared dead on the scene and a female passenger of that vehicle was taken to the hospital.

The male driver of the eastbound vehicle also was taken to the hospital, Barkus said.

He said at 9:50 a.m. that First Street was blocked off while the incident was investigated and traffic was being diverted.

Montana Highway Patrol said at 9:45 a.m. that information about the incident was not yet available while the department investigated but information should be available later today.
