Women's Expo again coming to town

The Havre Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual Women’s Expo Saturday and Sunday, welcoming people from near and far to attend.

“It’s just a fun event to draw people into our community,” event organizer and Chamber of Commerce Events Committee Chair Tera Verploegen said.

Chamber of Commerce Director Jody Olson said that it is a two-day event of fun and vendors geared toward women’s interest. This event offers a place for women to get together for a shopping experience and education on a variety of topics.

The event will be Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., she said, adding that it will be held at 48 Second Ave., also known as the Ryan Building.

The Expo will feature a variety of vendors, Verploegen said, including handmade items, home-based businesses, clubs and local businesses.

Olson added that the chamber has sponsored the event for the past two years.

Verploegen said that the event is put on through the Chamber, starting seven years ago and it has grown over the years.

“People come to our community for these events, but while they are here they have the chance to take a look around, shop, eat and maybe spend an evening,” she said. “This is great for business for our town.”

She said that the goal of the event is to promote all kinds of businesses in Havre and also welcome people to see what Havre has to offer.

The event will have 40 vendors this year, coming from across the state, she said. Last year, about 500 people attended the expo.

It costs $1 or a can of food each day to attend the event, she said. The food will be donated to the Havre High School food pantry and the dollar goes to the committee’s general fund to be used for upcoming events the committee has planned.

A special gift will be awarded to the first 25 people each day, she said. She added that they will also be promoting the Chamber’s shop-local reusable tote bags. The bags can be used at any local businesses instead of plastic shopping bags. A picture of bags and information can be found on the Chamber Facebook page and purchased at anytime in the Chamber office.
