Wilkie wins a national title

Havre High senior Martin Wilkie isn't done winning wrestling championships at the high school level just yet.

Wilkie, who became a Class A four-time state champion back in February, and who will be taking his talent to the University of Minnesota next fall, captured the 145-pound title at the USAW Folkstyle National Tournament last weekend in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Wilkie went a perfect 5-0 over the weekend, including beating Dawson Shiavong of California, 8-5 in the championship match.

Wilkie was one of five Blue Ponies who traveled with HHS head coach Beau LaSalle to compete in the Folkstyle Nationals.

Connor Harris, also wrestling at 145 went 8-1 for a 3rd-place finish at this prestigious tournament. Cameron Pleninger, wrestling at 120 pounds, went 3-2 and Lane Paulson wrestling at 152 went 2-2. Wrestling in the 16U Division was Dominick Perkins who faced a #1 seed at 126 in the second round of action and went 0-2 at the event.
