Warp, Saints to play for NAIA title tonight

Former Havre Blue Pony star Dane Warp is just one win away from becoming an NAIA national champion.

Monday night in Kansas City, Warp's Carroll College Fighting Saints topped rival Lewis-Clark State 66-55 in an all Frontier Conference Fab Four semifinal at the NAIA national tournament. The game guaranteed a Frontier team would play for the national championship for the first time since Rocky Mountain College claimed the national title in 2010. It also means that, for the first time in league history, a Frontier school will have played in both the NAIA men's and women's championship games.

And Carroll has a chance to make a lot of history tonight when the Saints take on Georgetown of Kentucky. Carroll is gunning for its first national championship in men's basketball, and if the Saints win, they would give the Frontier, and the state of Montana an incredible sweep of the NAIA national basketball championships in 2019.

In the semifinal game, Warp scored eight points, while star senior Match Burnham led the Saints with 27 points. Warp also scored 12 points in the quarterfinals against Pikeville, nine in the second round against Oklahoma City and 15 in the opening round against St. Thomas of Texas.

Tonight's NAIA men's national championship game tips off at 7 p.m. M.S.T., and can be viewed live on ESPN3.
