Editor,
The winter reading series at the Havre-Hill County Library was themed with the fascinating subject of birds. Rachel Rawn, library director, planned the theme and organized the books and speakers. The Friends of the Havre-Hill County Library, with support from Humanities Montana, sponsored the series.
The library made the books available before each discussion.
The series started with “The Feather Thief” by Kirk W. Johnson; the discussion was lead by Terri Hildebrand, a professor at Montana State University-Northern. Second in the series was “Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls” by David Sedaris; the discussion was led by Valerie Guyant, a professor at Northern. This book was followed by “Dear Mrs. Bird” by A.J. Pearce; the discussion was led by Will Rawn, retired Northern professor. The last book was led by the author himself, Jim Robbins, “The Wonder of Birds.”
The Friends of the Havre-Hill County Library thank everyone involved in making this series successful. The “birds” series made for extraordinary discussions and an enlightening way to spend Thursday evenings at the library. The annual fundraisers such as the pie social and book sale sponsored by the Friends are what make programs like this possible. Check it out or join the Friends. Meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month at noon with dues that are priced right.
The April meeting has been canceled. The Friends will meet on the third Thursday of May at noon; we will not meet in June, July and August. Call the Havre-Hill County Library at 265-2123 for the most recent information.
