From Havre Elks Lodge
Havre Elks Lodge #1201, with the assistance of Havre Food Bank Manager Samantha Nimmick, donated and delivered 72 cases of food to the Havre Food Bank in February.
"The Havre Elks Lodge was pleased to donate 19 cases of pasta, 17 cases of cereal, 15 cases of peanut butter, 14 cases of canned fruit, and seven cases of honey to the Havre Food Bank," Lodge Secretary and Grants Chairwoman Brandy Kurtz said "This donation was made possible through the hard work of our members and the generosity of the Elks National Foundation Beacon Grant program.
"Our lodge was looking for the best way to utilize the $2,000 Beacon Grant to maximize impact in the community" Kurtz added. "I reached out to Samantha Nimmick at the Havre Food Bank about what they really needed during these brutal winter month's for their clients. Nimmick prioritized a needs list for the lodge and then we were able to work with a great community partner in Gary & Leo's IGA to purchase the items for the food bank. Gary & Leo's assisted the Elks in this donation by donating funds for the purchase of food and covering the transportation cost of having the food shipped to Havre."
"In my discussions with Mrs. Nimmick, I found out that the Havre Food Bank is low on food due to the extreme cold and the government shut down earlier this year," Kirtz continued. "They also need volunteers to assist with various operations at the Havre Food Bank. Havre Elks Lodge #1201 was pleased we could help the Food Bank with this donation."
