Homesick

You know, Lord, not everyone experiences being homesick. Who would have thought that homesickness of a child was homage, respect and praise of a good home life? Such seems to be the case. Thinking way back on school classmates making fun of homesick peers brings those once sad faces into perspective. More than one of us in that small room was a “suitcase” student so very long ago.

Right about holiday time — any holiday, but that particular year is was Thanksgiving, which was right around the corner — that’s when the heart of far-from-home children long for home. Oh, the wisdom of the dean — or mentor — who would get their attention and say to the class: “Looks like you’re sitting there staring into space and being homesick, ‘Johnny.’ You know what? That speaks so very well for your home. Don’t you just pity the poor chap who is not homesick?”

That feeling of homesickness is true in our everyday life as well, especially when we’re near that “magic” three-score-and-ten-year mark that You speak of in Your Holy Word, Lord. We are homesick for our eternal home. Pity the person who isn’t homesick for our never-ending home with You. Here’s a good thought by author Rutherford who has said: “The hope of heaven under troubles is like wind and sails to the soul.”

In John 14:2 and 3 we read, “In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you, for I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”

Also, Revelations 2:20: “He who testifies to these things says, ‘Surely I am coming quickly.’ Amen. Even so, come Lord Jesus!”

Love, Mara
