As the snow piles up it hides the sidewalks and decreases visibility, leading drivers to unintentionally end up parking on the sidewalks instead of stopping at the curb, a release from the police department said.
Some sidewalks in the downtown area are hollow and pose a danger to those who park their vehicles on the sidewalks, Matosich said. He added that the sidewalks are heaving because of the frost and cold temperatures.
He said that the cold weather and frost are weakening the sidewalks, leading to a potentially dangerous situation for drivers. Matosich said he’s just concerned for the safety of drivers and does not want to see any sidewalk cave-ins.
Matosich also reminded drivers of the parking limits in the downtown area. Some parking spaces have two-hour limits and some have 15-minute parking limits.
The parking spots with limits are located from First Street to Third Street from the center of Second Avenue on the west to the center of Fourth Avenue on the east.
Matosich said that employees need to pay attention to where they park and allow room for customers to park. Matosich said he wanted to remind drivers that streets on the west are two-hour parking and those on the east are not.
