Michael Morse “Mike” Finley, 70, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 2, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.
Mike was born in Butte on December 20, 1948, to William “Bill” and Jean (Kelly) Finley. He was raised in Centerville. He graduated from Boys Central High School in 1968, then attended Montana Tech for several years before starting his working career at the Mountain Con Mine. He also worked at the smelter in Anaconda, the Butte Concentrator and drove truck in the Berkeley Pit.
As the mining industry waned, Mike went to work for the Burlington Northern Railroad in 1976 as a telegrapher/clerk. His duties for the next 33 years took him all over the state including being a depot agent in Malta, he was primarily assigned on the high-line in northern Montana. He was living in Havre at the time of his retirement.
Because of his loving and caring nature, Mike had many lifelong friends. From fixing their cars to helping with home repairs, he was always willing to help anyone in need of anything. Mike loved all animals, especially dogs and cats. He lovingly cared for his furry family: Poopon, Goldie, Snoop and his cat Nrml, just to name a few.
Mike was preceded in death and is now reunited with his parents and his brothers Larry and Pat. Also preceding him in death were aunts and uncles Leah and Felix Madrazo, Mary Catherine and Joe Pacheco, uncles Bill and Jack Kelly, Jack and Dick Finley and cousins Carol Madrazo and Jim Pacheco.
He was a brother, uncle and nephew to his surviving family that includes his brothers, Dan (Judy) of Billings, Tim of Milwaukie, Oregon, Jerry (Tammy Stidham) of Deer Lodge; his sisters, Jeananne (Nick) Williams of Butte, Irene Finley (Greg Kaufman) of Vancouver, WA, and Katie (Roy) Webster of Butte. Mike was a proud uncle to his nieces Danette (Marc) Gilboy and their daughters Taryn, Kensley and Addison, all of Butte, and Kellee Webster of Vancouver, WA, his nephews, Eric Webster and Chris (Lacie) Williams and their children Codie and Haylie of Butte and Roy and Parker Stidham of Deer Lodge. He is also survived by his uncle Jim Kelly of Seattle, Relatives and friends may call between 10
a.m. and 11 a.m. Thursday March 7, a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. at Duggan Dolan Mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the Chelsea Bailey Animal Shelter or to a charity of choice.
