The last weekend of the 2019 high school wrestling season is almost here. But before area teams could think about this weekend’s All-Class State Wrestling Tournament in Billings, they had to get through the Northern B-C Divisional Tournament.
The divisional tourney was held last Saturday in Cut Bank, with the Malta Mustangs claiming the Northern B-C title with 141 points. Cut Bank and Shelby tied for second while, Chinook finished ninth with 41 points, followed by Fort Benton-Big Sandy with 37.5, Chester-Joplin-Inverness with 24 and Harlem with 19.
The Hi-Line also produced solid results individually.
Chinook saw Rebecca Stroh place fifth at 113 pounds, after she placed at the state tourney a year ago at 103 pounds. The Beeters also got third-place finishes from J.T. Hauer (152) and Favion Couturier (160), while Ross Reed finished fifth at 145 pounds and Garrett Pruttis was fifth at 132. Drake Berreth also placed sixth for Chinook at 120.
The Hi-Line’s top finisher was CJI’s Reuben Swenson who won the heavyweight divisional title Saturday.
Fort Benton-Big Sandy got a fifth place from Bayley Genereuex at 126, while Connor Schnabel was third at 138, Dillon Geyer was fifth at 160 and Hayden Axtmen was fourth at 182.
Harlem was paced by the efforts of John Hughes, who placed fourth at 132, Moses Smith, who was sixth at 182, and Jeremiah Mount, who finished sixth at heavyweight.
All those who qualified will now make their way to the 2019 Class B-C state tournament, which runs Friday and Saturday in Billings.
