Benefit set Friday to help Leyba with medical expenses

Press release

A benefit is set for Friday, Feb. 8, at Harvest Moon Lanes to aid Alex Leyba with costs related to a recent medical emergency.

Cost for entry is a free will donation.

The event will start at 6 p.m. with a taco and nacho bar along with a silent auction and 50/50 raffle. The night's entertainment will include live music by several local bands, as well as two different comedy acts.

Leyba has been active in the local music scene for many years and has made many friends in the local music and comedy community who want to help out one of their own.

He has been a dialysis patient for the past 8 years, has had several health crises in the past six months, including four surgeries. Leyba was hospitalized at Benefis Hospital in Great Falls for 13 days in December and January. He experienced cardiac arrest from a heart arrhythmia during dialysis and had to have a defibrillator implanted. He has had to relocate to Great Falls for dialysis treatments and to be near his doctors for appointments.

He worked at Havre Grateful Bread until these health issues made it impossible to do so.

This has been a trying time for Leyba and his family.

People who are not able to attend the benefit can donate online to Alex's ABLE account at https://www.ugiftable.com/ - Code U6Q-343, Alex Leyba.

An ABLE account is a way for people with disabilities such as Alex's kidney disease) not to lose their benefits such as Medicaid, and it is sanctioned by the state of Montana. Leyba said he and his family thank everyone for their caring and concern.
