Hill County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of a man arrested Friday in relation to a high-speed pursuit through Hill County and Havre.
Josh Herrig of Havre, 23, was arrested Friday and was being held this morning in the Hill County Detention Center on $20,000 bond on suspicion of probation violation.
Hill County Chief Deputy Cory Matkin said Monday that Herrig was on probation for a charge of criminal endangerment before Friday.
Herrig was one of three people who were in the vehicle at the time of the pursuit, Matkin said, but the other two fled the scene on foot.
Matkin said the investigation is still ongoing and Hill County Sheriff’s Office has not apprehended the other two suspects.
He said no sign that illegal substances are involved has been found at this time.
Friday at 7:47 a.m., a deputy patrolling Bullhook Road noticed a four-door 2001 Hyundai Elantra that was reported stolen Jan. 25 from the 400 Block of 10th Avenue and attempted to have the driver pull over the vehicle.
Matkin said the theft of the vehicle had been reported to the Havre Police Department.
When the deputy attempted to pull over the vehicle, the driver fled and the deputy pursued.
The pursuit entered city limits and ended on the 100 Block of 17th Avenue, where Herrig was arrested. The vehicle contained two other occupants who fled on foot.
Havre Police Department assisted in the pursuit.
Matkin said this case was only one of the recent cases of stolen property, such as vehicles, within the past month and people should remember to lock their vehicles and not leave the keys inside.
According to the Hill County Sheriff’s Office dispatch log and the Havre Police Department dispatch log, 10 calls in the past week have reported stolen vehicles from the Havre and Kremlin areas as well as Rocky Boy’s and Fort Belknap Indian reservations.
